The Shade of Writing

By Damien Knight
A storm is not nearly as lovely

As your raven hair

And rain does not sound as gorgeous

As when you swear

Nothing brings me more joy

Than being at your place

Nor more sorrow

As the tears on your face

If only we’d be less like a storm

For passing is the habit of rain

I’d rather be as rocks

Than endure this pain

For rocks feel eternal

Steady slow to change or bend

But our love was swift

And my heart must mend
