Finding that perfect little ball of fluff to take home must feel like the greatest joy in the world. And it is! 🙂 But, there are a few things I’d like to bring to your attention before you drown in a river of excitement.

  1. If you look at that teeny-tiny-drooling-marshmallow in your arms, it might seem like he’s as cute as a teensy button. But it isn’t for long. You cannot possibly imagine how something so small can eat SO MUCH, and more importantly POOP SO FRIGGIN’ MUCH! So get a shovel and be prepared. They go from marshmallow to giant beast in months!
  2. Do you fantasise about those dreamy walks you long to take with your pupper? Well, they’re all gonna come true. Except you’ll be doing it about a million times a day ‘cuz he is always gonna need a wee.
  3. How soft is his shiny mane? Don’t you just wanna cuddle up against that cozy fur? Well, you can do a lot of that ‘cuz it’s going to fill up your house. You don’t even want to know how much worse it can get in shedding season.
  4. The kisses you love now will soon turn you into a slobbery pile of mush. YUP. Imagine getting slobber over your prom dress. Ain’t so pretty, is it?
  5. The jumping up and down to welcome you home soon turns from cute to traumatic when he shoves you to the ground with one little hug. 😀 They’re almost ALWAYS excited.
  6. If you’re eating and he’s not, you’re going to have to make it through a lot of begging. A LOT.
  7. If you’re overwhelmed already, what will you do when you get to bath time? Shampoo everywhere. Wet dog hair everywhere. Your house is now your pupper’s pool partaaay! He will give you a bath before you’re done with his.

So yeah, getting a dog = a lot of work. But there’s something else you should know. He will be the best thing that ever happened to you. He will make your make your life so amazing that the amount of work won’t seem like much. Because you just found yourself a best friend. 🙂

Here’s a picture of my adorable, little munchkin.

He’s not very little anymore, but he is still just as adorable. 🙂

  1. All solid points! I truly think people need to research dog breeds and what they were bred for. I got a pug mix because I liked that pugs where companion animals, but mine is mixed win dachshund so she likes to go for long walks and chase chipmunks and all that stuff too.

  2. You are right I loved it 🙂 great piece I find when it comes to puppies a lot of people go in with a romantic picture in their mind. When really it’s waking up in the morning and stepping in a big ol puddle of pee haha

  3. This should be printed and hung at every adoption place…. So well put ☺
Your dog is so cute! My favorite & always wished a family member or friend would get so I can enjoy without owning… I dog sat and she would need to be taken out in the middle of the night…good eye opener! And the walks she wouldn’t keep going… stopped to sniff… I stick with my 🐈 cat and enjoy others dogs (thanks for liking my post) ,😁

      1. She was found wandering by our apartment & raccoons where always around. ..we would talk to her about that & the name Coons for Raccoons stuck…wanted a name related to her color like snow or something but nothing came to us…. 🙂

  4. This is a really fantastic and relatable piece! Getting a dog or any pet is a lot of hard work but it’s extremely rewarding. When I first got Jasper I had no idea what I was getting myself into and it definitely showed with the way he was tearing through absolutely everything in the house haha. Perhaps if I had read something like this beforehand I would have been a bit more prepared. Dogs, and especially puppies, are very cute but that definitely blindsides people to the massive responsibility they are when you actually get one. My blog talks about similar topics as well and it’d be awesome if you could check it out!
